The Sato Museum's scholarship and education program has been in operation for 18 years, lending support to over 280 artists who are now active in various fields of art.
This exhibition introduces the work of promising artists who have been earmarked by the curators of the Sato Museum, chosen among all previous recipients of its scholarships. This year, exhibition of work by Borujigin Tobuchichige and Noriko Okawara is presented.
Borujigin Tobuchichige was born in Inner Mongolia, received the 16th Sato scholarship and is currently enrolled in the doctoral program at Tokyo University of the Arts. He studied copper plate printmaking after coming to Japan, and his work displays a rich folk color as well as a unique rhythm.
Noriko Okawara was the 12th recipient of the scholarship. She completed graduate studies at the Tokyo University of the Arts, and is currently affiliated with the same institution. Her work consists largely of female portraits, with a unique appeal that stems from their relaxed, non-confrontational feel, as if they were an integral part of interactions among friends of the same generation.
