"En" is a multi-media exhibition of video, sculptural and two-dimensional works representing over a year’s work by art crew Rinpa Eshida's core members Noiz-Davi, Daisuke Yamamoto, D.H. Rosen, Akari Sasai and Xola. In October of 2006, these members gathered to create “Room,” the first Rinpa Eshidan video to include 3-dimensional work created in the group’s trademark, art-in-process style. Around the same time, the group posted their first videos on YouTube, and the response was phenomenal.
In 2007 Rinpa Eshidan’s Internet fame led to several invitations to perform both domestically and internationally. The crew created live art in clubs and art spaces all over Tokyo and took on several high visibility commercial projects including ad films for Tsutaya and NTT Docomo America. In September of last year, they were invited to do a 3-day residency at the world-renowned Dangdai International Arts Festival in Beijing’s famous 798 art district. Rinpa Eshidan closed this monumental year with a performance at Kanazawa’s newly developed Geijutsu-Mura art center.
This exhibition is a culmination of Rinpa Eshidan’s efforts over the past year both on and off the camera. The group will of course be screening their new DVD, but also showing both collaborative and individual works in various materials and styles.
