The Spiral Independent Creators Festival (SICF) started in 2000 with the aim to discover the next generation of talented artists. From an open call, 100 artists or groups are selected based on their portfolios, and between May 2nd to 5th every year, a large exhibition is held at Spiral.

The 9th SICF grand prize winner, Hidemasa Fujii, presented a series of works entitled "Stain," in which he utilized streams of LED lights seeping through stretched fabric.

One of the jurors of this competition, Takashi Akai of Uplink, said this about Fujii's work: "the beautiful lights are reminiscent of the opening scene of the anime Kokaku Kidotai (Ghost in the Shell), in which the city looks like an accumulation of light. They also remind me of veins of electric plants." The "Stain" series allures us, like creatures with communicative instinct.

This exhibition presents the largest work from the "Stain" series, 180 by 180cm in size, as well as other works using light as the theme.
