This year marked the 52nd anniversary of the Koenji Awa-Odori (Awa Dance), started in 1957 with the aim of bringing excitement to the town. Shoei Morita, a member of the Koenji shopping streets and also a notable figure who has been committed to the development of Awa-Odori, has continued to take photographs of this annual event since its inauguration. On view at 20 shops along Koenji's Pal Shopping Street are about 140 photographs that he took from the 1st to 10th editions of the event. Concurrently on display at Gallery 45-8 are photographs from the first decade of Awa-Odori history. These particular works vividly convey the energy and joy of its participants.
