"Space of Roses" Exhibition

Bunkamura Museum of Art
Finished
This exhibition features the work of Pierre-Joseph Redoute (1759-1840), court painter to Marie Antoinette and later Josephine Bonaparte, held to commemorate the 250th anniversary of his birth next year. Focusing mainly on the 160 works that make up Redoute's folio-edition masterwork "Rose Atlas", other items such as Alfred Parsons' (1847-1920) lithographs that have been collected in rose researcher Wilmott's "Rose Species", Japanese botanical artist Yoshio Futakuchi's (1900-1997) watercolors of roses, modern photographer Fujio Saimon's photographs, and many others. In addition, the lovely fragrances that come from roses will also make an appearance, thanks to the kind cooperation of perfume chemist Katsuyuki Yomogida, that will turn the gallery into an enchanted rose garden, so to speak.
