"Project N35 Yuki Mashimo" Exhibition

Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery
Finished

Artists

Yuki Mashimo
Yuki Mashimo employs abstract patterns and chimerical motifs which are reminiscent of bird and flower paintings by Jakuchu Ito. For instance, she used traditional motifs like "shibo-sei" (star cross) and "shokko-mon" (a geometric pattern consisting of squares and octagons). Images that are strongly associated with Japanese culture are emphasized especially in her recent paintings. Going back and forth between classical and contemporary expressions, she freely visualizes her ideas in her work.
