"Chinese Landscape, Flowers and Birds -Masterpiece from Ming and Qing Dynasties" Exhibition

Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts
Finished
China has long been the East Asian center of painting and has cultivated traditions of its own. Groups of both quantitatively and qualitatively exquisite works, often depicting enchanted landscapes, lovely flowers and birds that are believed to bring fortune, and other ancient figures, have been handed down to this day. Along the way, sophisticated painting techniques have been developed and been passed down from painter to painter, while a means to appreciate and view such paintings has also evolved over time. In Japan, where Chinese painting has been loved for a long time, it has been of immeasurable its influence on domestic painters.
In present Japan, there are not so many occasions to see Chinese painting, and its prosperous history is known to a limited number of people. Meanwhile, the avid lovers of Chinese painting have accumulated unique collections. This exhibition showcases selected works from the collection gathered by a sole collector.
On display is a total of about 70 exceptional landscape paintings, flower and bird paintings and figure paintings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Additionally, from the museum collection, printed books with illustrations will be on view. Please enjoy the tasteful elegance of Chinese painting.
