Hattori won the Grand Prix at the 28th Hitotsubo Exhibition of Graphic Art last April. This exhibition displays the work he has been occupied with in the one year since then. At last year's Hitotsubo exhibition, he created deer-like objects from canvases ordinarily used for painting, rethinking the status of the canvas as a material for producing art. He employs a variety of techniques to transform familiar objects into something unexpected and strange. His finished "things" have a certain playfulness about them, while prompting a more thoughtful process of "seeing" in the audience.
