In November 2008, Ginza Graphic Gallery will present the exhibition entitled "M/M (Paris): The Theatre Posters".
Since its foundation in 1992 as a Paris-based partnership between Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag, M/M (Paris) has continued to embrace and shock the worlds of design, fashion, and contemporary art. This exhibition introduces posters the partners have produced since 1995 for the Centre Dramatique de Bretagne (CDDB)—Théâtre de Lorient. The series shows the unique characteristics of the M/M (Paris) style of design to their fullest extent; by turns playful, loopy, naïve, aggressive, decorative, or sometimes even ugly. They create the impression of being extremely improvisational, but in fact each graphic tic or slouch is a highly controlled element in the overall composition. Individual designs resonate with each other to give a sense of sustained visual outpouring that never once lapses into complacency or cliché. M/M (Paris) has created a graphic idiom that is both extraordinary and disarmingly fluent.
The volume ggg Books -87: M/M (Paris) will be published in conjunction with this exhibition.
