Shigeru Suzuki
Shigeru Suzuki is a member of "Enlightenment", an artistic unit active in the fields of fine and graphic art, both in Japan and abroad. Suzuki also pursues a career as a solo artist.

This exhibition showcases Suzuki's collages, drawings and installation work on the theme of being "human". The "human" he explores is always imperfect, but this imperfection is precisely what human nature is all about. In one of the collages from his latest series, a dancing human silhouette with holes on its body and another image reflecting its psyche commingle with each other. Suzuki understands dance as an action which derives from religious tribal ceremonies, rituals that elevate human beings to new heights. For him, dance represents the hopes and prayers of imperfect humans in a bid to ascend towards greater heights. He also finds an affinity between "dancing" and "drawing": with the act of drawing, he expresses images and ideas coming out of his inner self, just as with dancing. Such modes of self-expression ultimately transcend his own private realm and are shared with his audience.
