In the 1980s, Katsura Moshino attracted much sensational attention for his illustration style mixed with computer graphics techniques. His unique space-age pictorial world was a sort of early harbinger of the Japanimation generation, drawing influences from American Pop Art as well as graffiti. Later, Moshino would go on to work as character designer for all the commercials for Nike's 1988 basketball campaign, held in 15 cities in America, in Italy, Japan and Asia, receiving terrific feedback both in Japan and abroad. In the 80s and 90s, Moshino was a leading talent in the lively club scene, wielding tremendous influence on graphic movements. He handled packaging and artwork, as well as music video production for artists like DJ Krush, Mondo Grosso, Monday Michiru, Nobukazu Takemura and Bird.

This exhibition is Moshino's first real exhibition in Tokyo in 7 years, featuring a vast number of illustrations, computer graphics works and graphic designs created over 20 years that represent not just a time-tunnel framework of Moshino's aesthetics - also on display and interwoven with these historical examples are more recent works that testify to Moshino's unwavering creative vitality.

Although some would say that Moshino no longer makes groundbreaking graphic work in the music scene, this overview of Moshino's superior sense of graphic composition can still be felt running through this group of works that first earned him the deep respect of today's creators.
