"Animal Garden" Exhibition

Ota Fine Arts
Finished
Ota Fine Arts is pleased to announce our upcoming exhibition, Animal Garden, starting from October 14th. The exhibition features an assortment of works ranging from ancient to contemporary art that represent animals.

Historically, domestic animals and pets, even wild animals, were part of our daily lives.
Sometimes as beings to be feared of, and other times as a symbol of power, or merely food, animals are inseparable from human life, their presence absolute, and this applies to the art world as well. This relationship remains the same even in this present world where the world has become harder for all of us to survive in, and we see a variety of depictions of animals in contemporary art.

The 20 works in this exhibition range from animal tomb figures from the Han Dynasty and a knight sculpture from the Northern Wei Dynasty of ancient China, paintings by Maruyama Ōkyo and Nagasawa Rosetsu from the golden age of Edo paintings, to contemporary artists such as Tiger Tateishi, known for his distinguished tiger drawings, Hiroshi Sugimoto's diorama series, and works by Hiraki Sawa, Tsuyoshi Ozawa, and Yayoi Kusama, all representing animals in their unique ways.

Although contemporary art is known for its complexity, this is an exhibition where
viewers may compare and contrast it with ancient art, through familiar motifs like animals.
