Shotaro Ishinomori
2008 commemorates the 70th birthday of manga artist Shotaro Ishinomori. He made his debut with "Nikyu Tenshi" in 1954, and he has since published a number of manga - a medium that enabled him to express "anything".
Manga and animation are closely tied together, and many of Ishinomori's works were made into animations. He was involved in the creation of his own anime, establishing the animation production studio Studio Zero with his peers from Tokiwa-so, the apartment complex where many important manga artists once lived. He did the original illustrations for the "Midoro-ga-numa" (Green Pond) episode of "Astro Boy."
Ishinomori holds the record for producing the largest number of comics. This exhibition introduces his talent as an animator.
