Ingrid Weber produces paintings with an extremely limited palette, or sometimes even in monochrome. As a preparatory step, she carefully mixes pigments in order to create a set of colors with subtle values. For example, to make different types of green, she controls the amount of yellow and blue pigment, as well as the types of media that are added. Finally, she selects several hues from the variations on the one color she has mixed and creates a work using those.
In this exhibition, a total of twelve 37 x 37 cm paintings are on display, each employing a different set of color values. In the process of producing this series, Weber came to deepen her understanding of each color and the color theories that were brought to light through their relationships. This is her fourth solo exhibition in Japan, following her previous exhibition held in November 2006.
