Brilliance, grace and sophistication are key elements in defining the aesthetics of modern Japan. Inheriting the great tradition of Japanese art, Shoen Uemura, Kaii Higashiyama and other artists of the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras worked earnestly to develop distinctive styles of their own demonstrated here. 20th century masterpieces of the Idemitsu Collection are shown together for the first time in this exhibition. Exhibited together with these works are selected masterpieces by Sengai.
