Yamamoto Gendai is proud to present the exhibition "Yamamoto Gendai Future Feature vol.4: The Third". This exhibition features two emerging young painters, Kaori Kobayashi and Natsumi Hirakawa. Kobayashi conscientiously depicts somewhat impassive figures in disquieting spaces. Hirakawa paints strange yet humorous people depicted in a daydream-like environment.
The exhibition is focused on the artists' abilities to express neither "I" nor "you", but a glimpse of "the Third", possibly in reference to Emmanuel Levinas' concept of "the other".
What appears to be ordinary at first glance soon turns into something absurd and unfamiliar.
"The Third", which fails to be recognized as either "I" or "you", reveals itself quietly in these paintings.
