Vidas Biveinis was born in 1977 in Ignalina, Lithuania. Ever since getting hold of a camera at the age of 9, he has continued to take photos up until now.
Biveinis' prize-winning work at the Moscow International Art Festival, the "7th Day" series, captured the joyous expressions of children jumping into a river and other waterfront scenery. However, visible in this work as well are the seeds of a dawning awareness of competition and struggle amidst fun and games, and a slowly spreading sense of nervousness and anxiety. In addition to the tight pictorial composition and fresh, well-articulated rhythm captured in the photos, this work also simultaneously captured a glimpse of a looming adult society hidden in this childhood scene of innocence.
On display are four series of photos - "Sea", which depicts traces of existence and the passage of time through bluish silhouettes; "Fears", which evinces a sense of the uncanny that gets unearthed in the corners of one's memory; and "Falling Stars" (2007). In addition, other photo series will be exhibited at a satellite venue.
The opening party will celebrate Biveinis' first visit to Japan, during which he will be available to respond to any questions from visitors.
