Yayoi Kusama
This exhibition by Yayoi Kusama features her new painting series "Love is Eternal" consisting of 50 works begun in 2004 and completed in 2007. Eyes, polka dots, profiles of faces, flags and surging wave patterns are drawn repeatedly with a marker pen on an F100 canvas, while other motifs like butterflies, flowers, lips, handbags and women with their dogs are piled up next to them. Since holding "Infinity Net" exhibition in the 1950s in New York, Kusama found herself compelled to make repeated use of these motifs and to commodify them, turning them into products. However, the new series also bears characteristics reminiscent of her early drawings from the period before Infinity Net. In addition, the process of creation leading up to the "Love is Eternal" series was featured in the movie "I Love Yayoi Kusama", released last year. This exhibition promises to fill the walls with a spirit and environment that is uniquely Kusama's.
