TWS-Emerging is part of Tokyo Wonder Site's support program for young artists. It yearly hosts solo exhibitions by young notable artists, who are selected after the screening of 100 prize-winning artists from Tokyo Wonder Wall. This year, 19 artists were selected and will hold their solo exhibitions.
This year's first round is "Fantasized Time" by Yu Yasuda and "Witch" by Yusuke Shimura. By layering brush strokes and colors, Yasuda expresses on his canvases dream-like landscapes situating between reality and unreality as the accumulation of distant memories. Shimura devotes himself to capture through a lens extraordinary moments hiding within the ordinary. In "Witch", Shimura leads his audience to his magical world through the image of an erratic old woman (=witch of our time) who wanders about the city of Manhattan.
