"Landschaft IV" Exhibition

Radium von Roentgenwerke AG
Finished

Artists

Satoshi Uchiumi, Hideki Kuwajima, Shigeyuki Mizuno, Motoi Yamamoto
This is the fourth annual exhibition on the theme of "landscapes".

Since completing his MFA at Tama Art University, Satoshi Uchiumi has exhibited widely. Uchiumi truly appreciates the colors that various materials embody, stating that "the beauty of painting is the beauty of the media it is rendered in." Works of various sizes harmonize with the space they occupy, thereby acquiring a site-specific quality.

Hideki Kuwajima is an artist based in Osaka who held a solo exhibition at this gallery last month. This time, he will present not his photographs, but rather his new sculptural works. They are composed of innumerable colorful plastic toys that could be considered sculptural mandalas. Using these cheap materials, he makes sculptures that evoke a strong sense of stoicism.

Shigeyuki Mizuno is a very popular and charismatic modeler based in Toyota. He is an expert at expressing "brokenness", and the desolate stories in his dioramas give viewers a glimpse of new possibilities within the landscape genre.

Since graduating from the Kanazawa College of Art, Motoi Yamamoto has been participating in exhibitions in Japan and abroad. This is his first exhibiiton with the gallery in the last 5 years. Yamamoto presents his works made of salt, with the theme of death in mind. They seem to purify the bond between life and death in our minds.

Taken together, these paintings, sculptures, and models present a new vision of "landscape".
