Tetsuyuki Nagata
The Towada Art Center, designed by Ryuue Nishizawa (SANAA), opened on April 26th this year in Towada City, Aomori Prefecture.
With its permanent exhibition spaces that accord each work of art its own independent space and a building with a distributed, decentralized structure connected to the urban space around it, the center has garnered much positive attention owing to its unique approach and unprecedented style.

For this edition of TAB Talks, we are pleased to invite Tetsuyuki Nagata, overall director of Nanjo and Associates, to speak about his involvement in the rejuvenative art project, the centerpiece of which is this newly completed center. Nagata will also talk about his experimental planning and direction work with Arts Towada since 2003, an initiative that focuses on Towada's outlying art and culture zones, the proposals by five different architects for the center, the selection process for artists and their works, and other behind-the-scenes experiences at the front line of new developments related to the contemporary art boom.

All are warmly invited to attend - those with an interest in museum architecture, the relationship between art and cities, those planning to visit Towada over the summer vacation... The talk is scheduled to last 2 hours, and English interpretation will be provided.

Right after, we'll have a short segment called the 30-second Pitch. Five members of the audience will be invited to introduce themselves to the audience, promote a recent project, or announce a new product, website or company in under 30 seconds. If you're interested, please give your name and contact info at the reception table. Then for another hour, we'll have drinks, chatting, and networking among guests and audience members. Light meals will also be available.

TAB Talks are bilingual Japanese-English and start at 8:30pm, late enough for overworked designers like us. Limited seating of 90, come early.
