Tsutomu Seimiya "The Small World in Soap Bubble"
This event has ended.
At Shinjuku Nikon Salon
Media: Photography
If you bring your face close to a bubble and observe it with a high-powered magnifying glass, the beautiful sight of these psychedelic colors and forms wavering inside its membrane will take your breath away.
While these abstracted colors and patterns are only ordinary physical phenomena, they also give us the sensation of taking a furtive peek at an extraordinary realm of wonder that emanates a sort of mystic aura.
In evaluating such works, which can be categorized as scientific photographs, what matters is the amount of image information and its reproducibility, while sensory factors like composition and coloration usually get pushed to the side.
In his close-up shots for this exhibition, Seimiya not only strove to satisfy his scientific curiosity but also paid much attention to composition and coloration in an effort to recapture the ineffable sensations he felt when he saw a fluid figure for the first time.
70 color photographs are on view.
