A biome flutters by and lands on your doorstep.

In his continuing exploration of the divide between nature and technology, science and spirit, Conti turns to the shapes and forms of Tokyo's most ubiquitous wildlife - its bird population. Taking advantage of the bird's symbolic power as messenger, Conti presents not the animal we know but recombined forms that serve as a starting point for discussing our perceptions of where an organism begins and ends. In so doing, his works reflect the essential nature of painting - the act of looking - as well as provoke an emotional interaction with the revelations of contemporary biology.

Andrew Conti is a graduate of the Parsons School of Design in New York City. He has lived in Tokyo since 2003 working as a painter, designer and art writer. His work has been shown in numerous exhibitions throughout the United States and Japan. In 2007 his work was selected as an organizing design for the National Center for Science Education in the United States.
