Artists

Gert Tobias, Uwe Tobias
Gert & Uwe Tobias is a pair of artists who are twin brothers. Their work starts from constructing a unique exhibition space, transforming the already existing one. The central piece, first of all, is a great wood cut print, 2 x 2 meters in size. Then ceramic sculptures and drawings are added to the space. In many of the woodcut prints, narrative motifs are expressed in a complex combination of abstract forms; they remind one of the folklore from Transylvania, a region from their homeland Romania, telling stories of witches and ghosts.
In drawings, they are depicted more figuratively. The ceramic dolls mounted on proper looking pedestals look haunting yet somehow humorous. The wall is painted, in graphical composition, in deep and down to earth color. It has an effect of making one to think as if you are looking at an old masters paintings in a large scale art museum. There will also be on display the series of drawings produced by spinning paper around a typewriter, and posters with woodcut print made specific for each of the exhibitions they had. With unique painterly joy and humor, their graphical theory developed in many ways will be shown.
In this show, there will be 3 large woodcut prints, and 3 ceramic sculptures on ceramic plate on paper pedestals, and drawings of eerie clown and dwarf, and a few typewriter drawings will be on display. Also at TKG Editions, there will be a print show, in smaller size, at the same time.
