"A Survey of American Film History Part1: From the National Film Center Collection" Screening

National Film Archive of Japan
Finished
In 2003, the National Film Center obtained 16mm American films from Warner Brothers with the support of the photography museum, George Eastman House in Rochester. This collection consists of films made in the prewar era, including some that were never released in Japan.

This first edition of the screening series, "A Survey of American Film History," presents 9 rare pieces of film from the NFC collection. Selected films include "Inspiration" featuring Greta Garbo, "The St. Luis Kid" starring James Cagney, "Svengali" with John Barrymore, and many more. Movies created in the 1930s in a wide range of genres are on screen to introduce you to the wonderful history of American films.

All the films from this screening series are shown in 16mm, therefore, with no Japanese subtitles. Handouts explaining the stories in Japanese are available for visitors.

Please refer to the NFC's website for more details.
