Yuzo Saeki (1898-1928) was a painter who made a radiant mark in Japanese modern art history. Born in Osaka, Saeki learned painting in Tokyo Art University (present Tokyo University of the Arts). After moving to France at the age of 25, he met Maurice de Vlaminck, and this encounter changed his painting style. Although he had to move back to Japan once, he considered this period as "studying abroad" to Japan, ending up going back to Paris again with his family only to end 30 years of his life. This year marks the 110th anniversary of Saeki's birth, while it's also the 80th anniversary of his death. Even after so many years, his work still captivates countless people. Osaka City Museum of Modern Art Construction Preparation Room houses the biggest Saeki collection in Japan, centering on the collection of Hatsujiro Yamamoto, an great adherent of the artist. This exhibition showcases approximately 80 paintings mainly from Osaka City Museum Collection, tracing too short yet intense creative activities of the artist.
