"The Artist’s House" is located in a suburb of Vienna, Austria.
It’s actually the Maria Gugging National Neurology Center. It all started 50 years ago when the hospital let mentally retarded people at the Center draw as a form of mental therapy. And they managed to create such extraordinary works.
Even now, many artists living at "The Artist’s House" continue to produce powerful, pure works that boggle the viewer's mind. It was about 10 years ago that I encountered their artworks through a catalog. I also had the fantastic opportunity to visit the place in 2004 and again in 2007, and to interact with them. My origin as an artist is in Gugging. I hope more people will be able to enjoy firsthand the experience of this powerful, genuine art.
