Artists

Momoyo Iijima
Iijima was born in Kanagawa in 1982. She is currently enrolled in the doctoral program at the graduate school of the Women's Art University. She makes sculptural works using stone and wood, and has recently shown a preference for paraffin as a material. Examples include a group of 30 objects produced by pouring paraffin into holes dug into the surface of the ground, or works that mold old neglected tableware and clothes using paraffin. These works seem like an amplification of the impressions obtained from memories that are set under seal of both the solidity and the evanescence of paraffin as a material.
The new works at this show include 2 large scale works measuring 1.5m made by casting a pile of logs using paraffin, smaller works and drawings.
