At Ginza Geijutsu Laboratory
Media: Prints, Sculpture, Art Party

Japanese art has "evolved" from more traditional painting and sculpture towards manga and figurines, helped along by the influence of various subcultures. This trend also goes in the other direction, though: manga-like media are being retransformed into new forms of painting and sculpture, the forefront of which movement are artists like Yoshikazu Yanagi and Minoru Sugiyama. Yanagi uses computer-processed symmetrical images and gives them new life as a "traditional" painting, while Sugiyama is a multi-disciplinary artist who makes prints, paintings, sculpture, computer graphics, a well as volumes of manga published by Aobayashi Kogeisha. This exhibition presents work by these two artists at the center of this new wave in Japanese art.
