Artists

Shinji Omaki
Since 2007, Shinji Omaki has tackled Garbage Project based on the question "what is garbage?" Through workshops held in Korea and Guangzhou, China, he came to contemplate upon the boundary between "that which is art" and "that which is not", and "that which is beautiful" and "that which is not", collaboratively producing works with students and exhibiting them in museums.

Following his visits at the waste landfill repository of Tokyo in August 2008 and Omori Shell Mound in February 2009, Omaki held a debrief session at Tokyo Wonder Site. Since April 2009, he has been based in Studio 1 of Tokyo Wonder Site Aoyama, carrying out further research for the project with other artists and hosting talk events in an attempt to delve into issues surrounding garbage from various perspectives. As culmination of his research, this exhibition showcases his new installation works.
