Artists

Yayoi Kusama
The owner of this gallery, collector Ryutaro Takahashi, purchased an oil painting by Yayoi Kusama in 1998. Since then, he has been collecting many of her works. This exhibition showcases Kusama's two-dimensional works in a variety of media such as oil, watercolor, acrylic, gauche, pastel and more, including the first painting he bought, "No. 27," from the "infinity nets" series.

Kusama is best known for her polka dot series, but she has also produced a variety of paintings in ink, watercolor, and pastel. For instance, the pastel painting "Star" (1954) is a rare piece that was created before she moved to the US in 1957.

Furthermore, Kusama's sculpture, "Hand Accumulation (Sofa)", a sofa covered with a countless number of painted silver gloves is also on display at this exhibition. From the early works to her most recent pieces, a total of 20 pieces in various media are on display.
