This exhibition features photos in black and white taken on three different continents. "Junsui," which means "pure" in Japanese, is an investigation of purity that Birk sees in the midst of blackness. He will give a lecture on July 18th at 17:00 on the topic of tourism in zones of conflict, and present his project "Kafkanistan," a collaboration with the anthropologist Sean Foley.
Born in Bregenz, Austria, Birk is a former journalist based in Austria and Germany. He also worked as an independent photographer and director in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Birk has created numerous video installations and held photo exhibitions in Europe and Asia. His Kafkanistan project is the culmination of three years of research on the subject of tourism in zones of conflict (primarily Afghanistan and Pakistan) that has also inspired a book and two films. Currently based in Beijing, Birk pursues his artistic research while also teaching photography.
Né à Bregenz, en Autriche. Lukas Birk a d'abord été journaliste en Autriche et en Allemagne. Il a également travaillé comme photographe indépendant et réalisateur en Europe, au Moyen-Orient et en Asie. Lukas a réalisé de nombreuses installations vidéo et des expositions photographiques en Europe et en Asie. Son projet Kafkanistan est le fruit de 3 ans de recherches sur le tourisme dans les zones de conflit (Afghanistan et Pakistan principalement) et a donné lieu à un livre ainsi que deux films.
