Stéphane de Medeiros
Stéphane de Medeiros is a French sculptor who was born in Benin in 1972. He has been making installations, objects and performances since the late 1990s that fuse anecdotes with grand histories, scientific knowledge, electricity bills, pornographic films and epistemology, stammering and paternalism, mythology and non-myth, etc. These often displaced elements (a conference in a minuscule cupboard in its collector's home; a swimming pool filled with ketchup in a hotel; an autonomous, 3D shadow of a cyclist covered in shaving cream in a museum, etc) demonstrate a sensibility that derives from a loss of meaning, and whose function is, according to de Medeiros, to "return to reality what properly belongs to it." For this show, de Medeiros presents a neon blue installation entitled "Tempest of the Desert of Wittgenstein."
