Artists

Kohei Yamashita
Kohei Yamashita creates 2D and 3D works by collaging fragments cut out from printed matter and installing them in the space of the exhibition. His collages are characterized by microscopic round parts taken from diamond advertisements, articles explaining the structure of atoms, and photos of soccer balls and flowers. These colorful fragments are taken from glossy paper, and have the appearance of water droplets or beads, covering his works with a radiant luster.

Recently, Yamashita has taken mountain climbing as his motif, depicting human thoughts, the commanding presence of mountains, nature, divinity and an expansiveness that stretches into outer space. All his 2D works feature jet-black backgrounds, which evoke a sense of fantastical imagination when combined with the vibrant colors of his collages, as well as a floating sensation that seems to have been liberated from the laws of gravity.

Yamashita is currently a graduate student at an art college. This exhibition showcases works that deal with mountains and the idea of accumulation, including new works like his "Cologne" installation.
