"Surging Image" Exhibition

Taro Okamoto Memorial Museum
Finished

Artists

Taro Okamoto
What comes first is an impulse to express "this". Then comes the passion to materialize the impulse. I hastily start drawing a sketch, driven by an urge to let out whatever is inside me.

This is Taro Okamoto's production process.

Okamoto made repeated esquisses (trial sketches) until his hand managed to get an accurate grasp of the image welling up from within himself. Then he asked himself many times if the outcome really matched the original image he had in mind. The countless esquisses Okamoto created speak of this impulse that always resided within him.

By taking a comprehensive, panoramic view of a series of his esquisses, this exhibition provides the viewer with an opportunity to experience part of Okamoto's creative process.
