The Japanese people have traditionally had a close relationship with the changing seasons, expressing their beauty with poems. Flowers became a part of people's everyday lives, reaching its pinnacle during the Edo period when it became a sophisticated "gardening culture" loved by people of all classes.

This exhibition will present such rich gardening culture in the Edo period that was highly appreciated by international visitors to Japan at the time too, through ukiyoe prints of the period. Visitors will be able to enjoy a gardening culture unparalleled anywhere else in the world through beautifully "flowering" ukiyoe prints.
