Masashi Ifuji
Masashi Ifuji has broken new ground in the field of sculpture and furniture making, in an effort to closely engage with the materials he works with.

With advances in modern technology and the subsequent loss of the luster and vigor of handcrafted work, the time has come to reexamine the value of "handiwork". Against such a climate, Ifuji realized that it was his own accumulation of knowledge and skills that has taken away something important from the act of making. After contemplating this issue for a long period of time, he had a revelation: that he should try "not making".

On view at this exhibition is a series of new works Ifuji created as a result of his earnest effort to explore the beauty of materials and form.
