"René Lalique: A Retrospective" Exhibition

The National Art Center, Tokyo
Finished

Artists

René Lalique
René Lalique (1860-1945) is known as a trailblazer in the field of Art Nouveau jewelry and Art Déco glass making from the late 19th to the mid-20th century. Attracting much attention at the Paris Exposition in 1900 and the Art Déco Exposition in 1925, his work elevated the status of craft to a level equal to that of painting and sculpture, while also receiving remarkable acclaim for its capability to bring a new aesthetic to our everyday lives.

Celebrating the 150th anniversary of his birth, this exhibition introduces Lalique's accomplishments in their entirety through a total of 400 pieces, including a tiara housed in the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, and a much talked-about glass statue of a goddess, handpicked from collections in Japan and abroad.
