"A Glittering Interlude: Visions of Satsuma-kiriko" Exhibition

Suntory Museum of Art
Finished
The artistic cut glass known as satsuma-kiriko had a fleeting existence, with production flourishing and then coming to an end within the last few decades of the Edo period. Cut to produce a prism-like brilliance, this glassware is noted for the exquisite harmony of its rich patterns and colors. This exhibition looks back at the entire evolution of satsuma-kiriko, from its origins to its final days, a revelation of Japanese aesthetics through the medium of glass.
