Bernard Buffet
It's been 10 years since Bernard Buffet (1928-1999) ended his own life. His delicate yet powerful lines and sense of presence exuding from his pictorial realm never ceases to attract viewers.

Born in Paris in 1928, Buffet participated in the Independent Exhibition at the age of 19, receiving high acclaim as a young promising artist. His compositions filled with sharp, straight lines, as well as a mostly black palette, generated a uniquely somber mood. By his twenties, Buffet had risen to stardom in the Paris art world.

When Buffet visited Saint-Tropez in southern France one summer at the age of 30, he had a fateful encounter with a woman named Annabelle. Active as a model with her beautiful look and sophisticated bearing, Annabelle hit it off very well with Buffet from the beginning and got married to him half a year later. Since then up until his passing, they shared a lifetime together. Many of Buffet's works are based on Annabelle and express his affection for her.

Centering on works based on Buffet's beloved muse, this exhibition showcases a total of 60 paintings from the Bernard Buffet Museum collection, ranging from his early landscapes and still life paintings to the notable "Circus" series.
