Hisaharu Motoda
hpgrp Gallery Tokyo is please to present the new works of Hisaharu Motoda in his first exhibition in the gallery. Motoda depicts landmarks of Tokyo such as Tokyo Tower or the Houses of Parliament, or other urban landscapes that are representative of Tokyo as abandoned sites in ruins. We perceive the landscapes that surround us daily as something immutable losing sight of their transiency: no one knows if such landscapes will be here in the future. The World Trade Center in New York disappeared in a few instances on September 11th 2001. It would however be erroneous to perceive Motoda's abondoned landscapes in purely negative terms of destruction and decay. They could also be understood as part of a constructive process where new values are born from existing values where the world transforms itself into a new form. The small patches of green in those landscapes can be understood as a sign that time still flows, as a sign of hope.
