Misako & Rosen is pleased to announce our summer group exhibition "Gebageba Summer Show - Gebageba 4 weeks". In "Here's Why Patterns" held last summer, we focused on recent approaches to abstraction and repetition. "Gebageba Summer Show" will have more macro-approach, considering the position of contemporary art practice and culture within society at large. Artworks and exhibitions are made possible only after a great effort is put forth from all involved. Sometimes we rely on chance, while on the other hand deliberation and purpose at times become crucial. In the same way, there is as great a variety of artists as types of practice. In this exhibition, we deliberately break down the boundaries between genres and cooperate collaboratively with artists to create a scenario called an "exhibition".

"Geba Geba" is derived from the German word "gewalt". This expression came into use during the Japanese student movement of the 1960's and conveyed an anti-establishment attitude. The word later took on a wider, more popular usage following its inclusion in the title of "Kyosen Ohashi and Takehiko Maeda's television program, "Kyosen to Maetake no Geba Geba 90 pun (Kyosen and Maetake's Geba Geba 90 minutes)". The exhibition title "Geba Geba Summer Show" is meant to suggest the message "force employment in the name of art".

The exhibition will include an improvised installation of works on paper and video pieces by a total of 26 emerging artists from both Japan and abroad.
