"Classic" Exhibition

Artists

Kumiko Emoto, Minami Hamada, Hisae Maeda, Kaori Mitsushima
This exhibition features work by four young female illustrators and artists based in Tokyo and New York, Kumiko Emoto, Minami Hamada, Hisae Maeda and Kaori Mitsushima. Although they typically work in a slightly surreal style interwoven with their own sensibilities, for this show they have come together to create a small book entitled "Classic," on the theme of classical paintings.

Their chosen topics include the French classical painter Ingres and the Renaissance painters Giotto and Hieronymus Bosch, with a focus on artistic expression through imitation, copying and arrangement, channeling various identities through various motifs and themes. Taking existing works as their motifs, these artists add their own interpretations to a work which can be appreciated from both classical and contemporary perspectives.

To commemorate the publication and release of this book, Now Idea is holding a "Classic" exhibition featuring drawings based on this fusion between classical and contemporary sensibilities.
