Kenji Shibata "Painting"

Taguchi Fine Art
Finished

Artists

Kenji Shibata
Ever since he was a student at university, Shibata has been creating abstract monochrome paintings which seem fairly orthodox at first glance. They are composed with delicate colors and distinguished by a smooth and shiny mirror-like surface. His work is usually done on panels covered with arche paper. First he spreads glue over its surface to prevent it from absorbing oil, after which he pours on a limited number of colored paints and uses brushes to construct the flat surface. Through this process subtle shades of red or blue absorbed within the dark browns, grays or greens that dominant his painting. Sometimes we can discern a certain depth or light, or even glimpses of scenery or illusions in it. His beautiful paintings are full of calmness and a hint of tension, and expertly finished.

This installation is Shibata's first appearance at Taguchi Fine Art. New paintings on canvas instead of his customary arche paper will be on view for the first time.
