"Principle of Art as Natural Philosophy" Exhibition

Tokyo Art Museum
Finished

Artists

Wakiro Sumi, Yoichiro Yoshikawa, Toshinao Kikuchi, Hisao Matsuura, Makoto Ito, Kenji Okazaki
This exhibition, organized by the exhibiting artists themselves, showcases works by six artists who began their art practice in the late 70s, when minimal art and conceptual art rose to prominence. Under the influence of these movements, these artists moved to consider the relationship between an art form and its content at a very fundamental level.

While sharing a common historical background, the artists are aware of the differences seen in their individual approaches to making art. Through this exhibition, they hope to reconsider the fundamental elements of artistic practice as well as share the experience of a group exhibition.
