"The Alluring World of Kaichi Kobayashi" Exhibition
This event has ended.
Kaichi Kobayashi is a designer who is receiving growing interest in recent years. He worked on numerous designs for postcards and envelopes from the end of the Taisho period to the beginning of the Showa period. The illustrations were created by wooden prints and present a color scheme and design that continue to allure viewers to this day.
Kobayashi's work was well known amongst connoisseurs but they only recently began to be presented to the public in exhibitions. After several group shows with other Taisho Modern artists in which Kaichi's work received significant attention, a solo show in Kyoto, where Kobayashi used to base himself, and a permanent collection of his work in Gunma were inaugurated. In February 2008, his family came forward for the first time since his death, throwing new light into the background of this mysterious artist.
This exhibition is organized with help of the Hoshina Art Museum where the artist's permanent collection resides and will be the first one in Tokyo to present his works in such a large scale with more than 300 works on display.
