"Ancient Carthage and Rome" Exhibition

Daimaru Museum Tokyo
Finished
Over 2800 years ago, a mighty empire whose glory equalled that of Rome stood at the edge of the turquoise blue Mediterranean Sea in north Africa - Carthage, the "Queen of the Mediterranean".

Through trade and exchange with neighboring countries such as Egypt and Greece, Carthage developed a unique culture by fusing influences from different Mediterranean cultures. The splendid mosaics of Carthage, with their delicate arrangements of natural stones laid out to form intricate patterns, are a prime example of its rich and varied history.

This exhibition showcases around 160 pieces from the National Museum of Tunisia, almost all of which are being exhibited for the first time in Japan. On display are crafts that embody the finest qualities of Mediterranean civilization and culture, gorgeous and dynamic mosaic paintings and more.
