Artists

Chihiro Iwasaki
Chihiro Iwasaki (1918-1974) is one the most popular Japanese illustrators of children's books. She was particularly talented in depicting children and babies with characteristic gentle and elastic textures. She was also known for her experimental attitude for broadening the possibilities of pictorial expression as can be seen in her combined use of oriental ink drawing techniques and pastels. Although her works deal with themes that are familiar to the viewers, her severity towards water color techniques and life drawing distinguishes her from other illustrators.

This exhibition will display 120 of her most representative works together with objects that belong to her. In conjunction with this event, messages by viewers regarding their personal experience with Chihiro's works will be collected and displayed.
