Kae Higuchi
Kae Higuchi was born in Sendai, Miyagi prefecture in 1975, and graduated from Tohoku Seikatsu Bunka College in 1997. In spring of 2005, she was introduced in the "N.E.Blood 21" exhibition at the Rias Ark Museum of Art, Kesennuma, which was one of the series with the focus on artists from the northern area of Japan. It was followed by her solo exhibition entitled "24°C" held at Nishimura Gallery, which received favorable reception. In the same year, she was awarded Miyagi Prefecture Young Artist Prize, and at the beginning of the following year, her works were exhibited in "A Muse Land 2006 Sweet Memories" held by Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art, Sapporo. In 2007, Higuchi won Ohara Museum of Art Prize in the Vision of Contemporary Art (VOCA) competition held at Ueno Royal Museum. She is now regarded as one of the most promising artists in Japan.

This exhibition introduces a total of 11 new paintings executed in oil and tempera. While Higuchi delivers the sweetness of children's presence itself, she also achieves to portray their psychological states incongruous to their lovely looks. In addition to her familiar motifs such as boys and girls, Higuchi focused in this third solo show on elderly people and still life images, expanding the possibility of her unique modes of expression.
