Celebrating the 35th anniversary, Nishimura Gallery is holding an exhibition entitled "Seven - 35th Anniversary" from June 23rd to July 25th.

Nishimura Gallery has held 256 exhibitions, from lithograph works by Richard Lindner to the latest show entitled "Drawings". Since its opening, the gallery has focused especially on introducing renowned British artists who Japanese people were not so familiar with, such as David Hockney who held 25th solo exhibition at the venue, Richard Hamilton who won Praemium Imperiale Award in 2008, Peter Blake, Lucian Freud, Anthony Green, Phillip King, Bridget Riley, Patrick Caulfield, David Nash and Boyle Family among others.

The gallery has also discovered emerging Japanese artists with great potential, supporting their production process and offering opportunities to exhibit their works. In 1975, the gallery had an exhibition of Yayoi Kusama "Message of Death from the Hades". It was the first exhibition since she came back to Japan from New York. Also held in the 1970s were exhibitions by the artists like Ushio Shinohara, Koji Enokura, Natsuyuki Nakanishi and Go Shigi. After the 1980's, the gallery introduced many progressive sculptors like Katsura Funakoshi who won the Mainichi Art Award and Technology Art Encouragement Prize this year, and Takashi Fukai, Akira Kamiyama, Akinobu Shimokawa and more. From the 1990's on, the gallery has fostered new talents, including Takanobu Kobayashi, Chieko Oshie, Atsuhiko Misawa, Kumi Machida, Asae Soya and Kae Higuchi, all of whom are now at the forefront of the art world.

This commemorative exhibition not only looks back on the history of the gallery but serves as an opportunity to gaze into the present through masterpieces by seven affiliated artists.
